Incredible pictures...
Posted by: Ed Gillespie
Our good mate Nick Cobbing, photojournalist extraordinaire, is currently out in Greenland on a 3 month mission with Greenpeace snapping away with the scientists on a pioneering expedition that is examining the melting of the ice-sheets and glaciers. As usual Nick's photos are fairly mindblowing, paradoxically beautiful in their incredible aesthetics of briliant blue skies and water, pure white ice and splashes of colour from the clothing of expedition members...
...yet the images are also sinister and disturbing when you contemplate what this means in the context of climate change, sea level rise and our environmental challenge. You can see a selection of Nick's images as they get widespread global coverage via the following links. As he himslef put it: "[the pictures are] very easy to make, what are you gonna do if someone puts you in a helicopter, slides back the door and shows you a scene like that!" Keep up the good work Nick and don't get cabin fever cooped on that research ship!
