Climate Change Culture...
Posted by: Ed Gillespie
There's a rather nice little article on the RSA's new Arts and Ecology webpages in which yours truly was interviewed to give my perspective on the frankly disappointing efforts of artists to grapple effectively with the challenge of climate change. Dirty beds with soiled sheets, crystal skulls and various dismembered mammals and fish in different stages of decay are all well and good in terms of helping us philosophise about mortality, fidelity, religion and...er...I'm still not sure what some of the fantastically pricey modern art icons are all about. But! You'd think artists might also be a little bit exercised by the biggest, scariest collective challenge we've ever faced. No? Maybe that's just me then. Anyway, I'm off for a bit more fond gazing at my navel and then some brisk auto-insertion of my head into my own anus. That'll be £7M quid please. Now that's what I call 'art'.
