The times they are a-changing
Posted by: David Willans
In favour of sustainable development in case you hadn't spotted it.
Here's the one of the signs:
"Skyrocketing oil prices and rising wages in China and India have shifted the breakeven curve for many products now manufactured in emerging markets and shipped elsewhere. It’s time for managers of global supply chains—and executives who run companies—to look anew at the economics of offshoring."
Chuck in a healthy dose of carbon accounting onto shipping products around the world and you've got some serious cost increases in the future.
The source? McKinsey Quarterly, the very insightful, albeit dry, newsletter from those sparklingly bright folk at McKinsey.
An interesting read, but not one for bed time.
