Climate change: delivered by the postman

Darn it! Someone else got there first. I was flicking through the Observer last Sunday, when I came across an article by Thomas Friedman of the New York Times, talking about his recent visit to Greenland's rapidly disappearing Kangia glacier.

Like many other SD communicators, I have recently been struggling to find a new language to communicate a sense of urgency on climate change to relatively affluent audiences. So, flicking through the Observer last week, I was interested to see Thomas Friedman's article, referring to his recent visit to Greenland's Kangia glacier.

His assertion that "most people will feel climate change delivered by the postman", in the form of higher energy bills, could well be the kind of incisive language that helps us to speak directly to this hard-to-reach audience. Let's have some more please!

...which is great if it weren't for attitudes like that of Malcolm Wicks, with the now infamous refusal "to sacrifice fuel poverty on the altar of climate change." Not sure this kind of message works so well when the short-term fixes generally exacerbate the problem...
