All about the girl

Now I know I’m biased but some ladies are just so damn remarkable.

There are lots of inspiring stories out there - from Mama Laadi, the amazing foster mother featured in Sorious Samura’s latest documentary How to Make a Difference in Africa, and Oxfam’s four Sisters of the Planet whose are trailblazing the way in climate change activism, to the women who my friend in Mozambique tells me bury their micro-finance funding in tins in the forest away from the greasy-fingers of their men folk. In general, in developing countries women loaned money are better able to support their families, run businesses, gain the respect of men and transform local economies.

So if we’re going to sort out the mess the world is in, where do we start? Who can really make change happen?

I vote for the ladies. As the girl effect movie so clearly communicates and cleverly illustrates, the solution isn’t the internet, science, governments or money, but – dramatic pause – a girl.

It’s simple.

Girl + school + cow = MONEY.

And money + business + clean water + social change + stronger economy = BETTER WORLD.

So give girls a chance and see how great the world becomes.
