25th March: 200 Years since the Formal Abolition of Slavery
Posted by: Futerra teamEvents across the country have marked this anniversary, offering opportunities for reflection and commemoration. This attention has brought many controversies to the fore, questioning once again, the integrity of the representation of history. It has been suggested that this moment should be one of reassessment rather than celebration. Though far from the scale and magnitude of brutality of the Transatlantic slave trade, modern day forms of slavery exist all over the world, including right here in the UK. As we aspire towards a more equitable future for all, the motivations behind slavery, past and present, have a lot to tell us about the obstacles we face.
