eco:Drive at BASE
Posted by jennifer in blog March 18, 2010BASE for me consisted of conference sessions on EV’s, Rethinking Business Travel, Reporting on Sustainability and Managing People and Change. Sounds kind of boring but in fact little pieces of gold information came out of them.
The highlight was Fiat’s presentation on eco:Drive cars. The technology behind this is probably not simple but that doesn’t matter because the USB stick is easy to use.
eco:drive is an innovative computer application which helps drivers cut down on the amount of fuel they use and in turn the amount of CO2 their cars emit. When plugged back into the computer, the eco:Drive application analyzes the information and offers tips to improve fuel economy and emissions. Users are able to track their progress, mileage, and emissions from the application’s interface. Interestingly, there is also a social aspect to the eco:Drive program called Ecoville, which shows how many drivers are using the system and how well the community is doing.
eco:Drive highlights areas for driving improvement and when used effectively can make fuel savings of up to 15%. I can’t really explain why this got me so excited- must have something to due with the fact that 15% savings means 15% less fuel meaning 15% carbon reduction.
